GIRL ON MARS

My name is Chloie Roupe, and I'm on a mission to bring my ideas to life through the art of design and apparel. I'm currently a Junior attending Sioux City East High and the Sioux City Career Academy. I am a first time FCCLA National Qualifier for the Fashion Design STAR Event and the only student in Sioux City to be attending the National Conference this July. This year I hold a position as an embroidery intern through "Stitch-It!" at the Career Academy.

I have shown designs on local Siouxland runways for the last three seasons, showcasing my first capsule collection at 15. I have been sewing since I was three years old, and practicing hand embroidery since 10.

Girl on Mars is the result of my rawest creative energy. I am obsessed with vintage fabric and prints, hand-dying fabric and creating my own patterns. I cite designers such as Betsey Johnson, Anna Sui, Georges Hobeika, Jean Paul Gautier, Iris van Herpen, Mary Quant, and Emilio Pucci as my biggest design inspirations. I spend hours at goodwill and other thrift stores sourcing vintage fabric and notions.

Creative Process

I am mostly inspired by the connection between the natural world and the experience of girlhood. Tea parties, treehouses, sundresses and wide brim hats. The immense love girls feel for flowers and grass and gardens, the instrinsic feminine energy of the outdoors. We named it mother nature for a reason. All of this translates into my design process, and the kind of clothing I love to create.
